Accessible Flagstone Stepper Pathway in Tellico Village, TN

This custom-built stone stepper pathway in Tellico Village was designed with accessibility, safety, and aesthetics in mind. Our client needed a durable, non-slip outdoor staircase that could safely accommodate a walker for elderly family members. Client Goals

The homeowner wanted to create a safe, stable pathway from the upper yard to the lower portion of the property that could be easily used by an elderly family member with a walker. The space needed to be functional and secure, while also fitting seamlessly into the natural landscape of Tellico Village.

    • Wide and deep natural stone steps
    • Landings built into every step for stability
    • A sturdy hand-rail system for safety
    • A clean, attractive finish that complemented the home and surroundings

Our Process

We designed and installed a completely custom steppercase using hand-selected flagstone sourced from a local Tennessee quarry. The natural coloration of Tennessee Variegated stone gives each step a unique character while blending with the tones of the surrounding landscape.

Each stone step measured 36” x 18” x 4–5” thick—giving ample surface area for a walker to rest securely. Between each step, we created a shallow landing to provide rest points and improved ease of movement down the slope.

To ensure the highest level of safety:

    • We installed 4x4 pressure-treated posts, each set in concrete
    • A steel tubular handrail was mounted the entire length of the pathway
    • Decorative 2-inch stone was installed along the edges to polish the look and improve drainage
